Last month I published my first two Substack posts: "Write Like a Dyke Means Writing Against Fascism" and "The Next Muzzle on Sexual Expression.” Both of these posts resonated with my readers and sparked some lively discussions about queer sexual liberation’s future. Now, I’m taking the next step forward: I’m launching paid Substack subscriptions.
How do subscriptions work?
As I laid out back in August, my plan is to roll out two tiers: $5.99 per month, or $69.99 per year. Subscribers get three perks:
Early access to new posts, one week in advance
Full archives of my Not Safe For Who? content, and
The ability to post comments and interact with fellow subscribers
After the subscriber-only exclusivity period ends, all new Not Safe For Who? content will be available for free for one month after publication. Once that full month ends, they’ll be “archived” for subscribers only. For example, if I publish an article on Oct. 15, the public will receive access on Oct. 22. Free readers have until Nov. 22 to read it. If you miss said article and want to read it on Nov. 23, you can do so by subscribing. It’s like getting a key to a safe filled with all my hot takes.
Paid subscriptions are purely optional, and they’re intended to be as seamless as possible. For example, if you subscribe to my newsletter for free, you’ll always receive my posts in your inbox. You may just receive them a little later than paid subscribers. Consider these paid perks just a neat little thank you for supporting me financially.
“I love your work, can I give more?”
You bet! If you want to dedicate a significant investment into the Substack, there’s a special subscription option called “Sex-Haver.” For $75 per year, you’ll receive all the perks above along with a special thank you message at the end of each post acknowledging your support for the Substack. Oh, and you get to call yourself an official sex-haver too. ID badges are not included, but highly encouraged.
“Will you continue publicly posting your podcast recordings?”
YES. I do not believe in paywalling these posts because they are an accessibility feature. Instead, they work by the same rules as the text posts: subscribers get one-week early access, then podcasts are posted publicly for a full month.
“Ana, this sounds great, but I’m tight on money. What can I do?”
Great question.
My goal here isn’t to nickle-and-dime my readers, it’s to a) put out work that speaks truth to power, and b) help pay the bills. So I’m offering a few ways to waive subscription fees. You’re more than welcome to request free access if you are:
Already subscribed to my OnlyFans
Unable to afford the $5.99 tier
